Onward Review: Two Bros and half a dad on a road trip to make him whole!

The Hit:

You all know Disney/Pixar movies are pretty much gold mines out of the get-go. So going in I was already pumped. Onward is a world where all sorts of magical creatures exist and besides the Cars Trilogy and a bugs life, this is the third series in the Pixar animation studio that no humans are present.

Voice Cast: Tom Holland, Chris Pratt, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Octavia Spencer, Mel Rodriguez

Pros: The voice actors are people we know and love, especially Tom and Chris from the Marvel movies. The animation is top tier like always, and that is something that you never need to worry about in these family-friendly flicks. The feat to retrieve a gem to fully bring back their dad reminded me of a lot of fantasy embarking adventures. I loved the relationship between the siblings and that ending got me in the feels.

Cons: Although this has elements of family, this movie didn't affect me entirely like the recent Toy Story 4, Coco, or even Incredibles 2. We do need more original content besides sequels of course, and although Coco was amazing, I didn't feel that same love for this.  The ending was very touching and heartfelt but I've seen it before and it wasn't something new that sticks out. It's already been a day and I somehow already forgot about this movie. It's still great to take the kids but don't be thinking you'll walk out praising it.

Even though it's not noteworthy in my opinion, the animation was great and how the different creatures were portrayed was in some part pretty funny and who knows you might end up loving it more than me, but this is one Disney/Pixar film I don't see myself praising in the future.

Key Info: Rated PG. Genres: Animation, Adventure, Comedy

The Verdict:

YELLOW LIGHT (Proceed with Caution)
