One Piece: Stampede Review: An astounding culmination of a series in one film!

The Hit:

This one is a little different because not too many of you- my readers follow Japanese animation, so I'll try to narrow this down the best I can. This is based on a Manga "Japanese comic book" that has been going on for 20 years, Yes TWENTY years and it is still going. If you wish to read it or watch the anime you'll understand why. It's a vast story that hits every subject in storytelling an author strives for. And it is why it is my utmost all-time favorite piece of media, beyond T.V shows, books, and movies. Nothing has come close to how great this series is.

Cast: Mayumi Tanaka, Kazuya Nakai, Akemi Okamura, Kappei Yamaguchi, Hiroaki Hirata, Ikue Ohtani, Yuriko Yamaguchi, Kazuki Yao, Chô, Hiroshi Kamiya, Mahito Ōba, Junko Noda, Shigeru Chiba, Tsutomu Isobe and many more wonderful voice actors!

Pros: We get to see so many past characters from the span of 20 years, old faces make an appearance ranging from Pirates, Warlords, Navy, Cipher Pol, and Revolutionary army. This movie was pure fan service and I loved it! The animation was similar to an earlier anime movie this year, which was Dragon Ball Super: Broly, another very popular series that most of you have heard of. We get to see a new very powerful foe by the name of Douglas Bullet who is known for being a crew member of the previous King of the Pirates Gol D. Roger, known as the Roger Pirates. Because Bullet is said to be a monster, he gave our Protagonist a hard time, Straw Hat Luffy and also his allies and rivals, who are also shooting for the title of being the new king of the pirates. What made me grin from ear to ear is so many characters interacting with each other, it felt like a glimpse into the final arc of the series and that makes me excited!

Cons: In the current story arc Luffy is facing off against one of the four emperors of the sea and we don't get to see any of them and although that's a minor detail and from seeing so many headliners in this already, they could have squeezed them in somehow. There's not much of a story in only 2 hrs, just mostly fighting but with a flick like this, it's easily justified.

This movie is only out in select theatres and also during a very limited time so don't miss your chance if you are a fan. If not, I'd highly recommend watching or reading but take your time, it's a very long and very well worth it of a series. If anime isn't your cup of tea because the main reason I always seem to hear is people think it's a cartoon you see on Disney channel or nickelodeon, then you are hugely mistaken. There are so many Genres to look into and of so many age groups, try looking at myanimelist.net for starters and maybe you'll fall in love with a series you never knew you would.

Zombieland: Double Tap Review: Zombies don't stand a chance against these OG's!

The Hit:

I know by this time around you are sick of hearing the term "Zombies" because when the first one came out, it started a boom with other movies and t.v. shows, but this was worth the wait if you loved the original cast.

Cast: Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, Emma Stone, Abigail Breslin, Zoey Deutch, Avan Jogia, Rosario Dawson, Luke Wilson, Thomas Middleditch

Pros: We get the same humor that made the first one so great plus more. The new additions to the cast helped the original four standout and Zoey Deutch playing a blonde bimbo was annoying at first but I slowly got attached to her airheaded character. Acting didn't hurt this at all, since the first, all the main leads have been nominated for academy awards and Emma being the only one so far having won one, that part of the film made this superb. But this is certainly no Oscar runner, it just wasn't cringy at all like some horror/comedy movies usually are. The story branches out but stays similar to its roots so it was easy to follow.

Cons: Like the above last statement in the pros, it is not an exact copy of the first but I could see how some people would look at it that way. It's been 10 years since the first and a sequel to take that long is sometimes good or bad. Sure, the four leads each had their projects and other movies they worked on but It easily could have come out at the era when "Zombies" were still fresh in everyone's minds.

In no way shape or form is this movie hurting from the time gap, I believe that if you were a big fan of the first, and seeing the original cast come back is a huge positive. Most actors wouldn't do that, so fans of the first you will love this sequel and if you haven't seen the first, you might have to see it or else you'll be lost in this follow up.

P.S. Also, make sure to stay during and after the credits for extra scenes. More so the mid-credit scene than the very end at least.

Joker Review: If you enjoy true crime or the character himself, this is worth the watch!

The Hit:

Don't go thinking you'll be seeing the Batman take down The Joker in this original retelling of the caped crusader's most popular villain. But some familiar names will stick out and that certainly was a little treat.

Cast: Joaquin Phoenix, Zazie Beetz, Frances Conroy, Brett Cullen, Robert De Niro

Pros: Wow, what can I say about this movie? It certainly was different from the comic version of Joker we all know and love but this version was more real in the fact that someone in real life could snap and do this but being a person who listens to true crime, this has happened, not in a grand scope like it's portrayed in the film but smaller and that aspect alone is why I really enjoyed this flick. It kept me on my toes figuring out what was real and what was in his head. It's one of those movies that makes you pay attention and I loved it. In my personal opinion, Heath is thee Joker but Joaquin is definitely in that second spot. He deserves an oscar by the time award season comes around after his performance. Secondary cast and familiar places came through as well and using characters in the Batman story like the Waynes sucked me in.

Cons: I enjoyed this film so I don't have very many cons, but I will admit that it's slow in the beginning and slowly starts to pick up. I would have liked to see more references to that DC world and we got a tiny bit but I'd like to see more characters shown. It was also a Joker movie so the focus was more on him so I really shouldn't complain.

Here is a little quote given by his version of Joker by Alan Moore, creator of a one-shot graphic novel, Batman: The killing joke, "All it takes is one bad day to reduce the sanest man alive to lunacy. That's how far the world is from where I am. Just one bad day." Joaquin's Joker definitely had a lot of bad days. Again, this is a more slow storytelling, mental, crazy side version of Joker and if that stuff bores you I don't recommend you seeing this but if it does, Go and enjoy dissecting it as much I did.
