Solo: A Star Wars Story Review: Good, but missed the magic

The Hit:

Another Star Wars side story based on a beloved character we all know and love. Does Solo meet the hype? In a way, it does but may be just as divisive as The Last Jedi.

Cast: Alden Ehrenreich, Joonas Suotamo, Woody Harrelson, Emilia Clarke, Donald Glover, Thandie Newton, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Paul Bettany

Pros: The parts of Solo I enjoyed were all the scenes with Emilia Clarke, she is the mother of dragons and I am such a fanboy over anything she is in. Han and Chewbacca's first meeting and also how Han gets his blaster, as well as the Millenium Falcon, were also great. Lando was a standout and Donald Glover nailed playing a younger version of the character. A close friend argued that the Millenium Falcon was not the real ship but you get to see why it is because of the damage it takes, so fixing it and repairing it really changes the look over its course of life, but it was nice seeing how clean and new it was from the start.

Cons: The story to me didn't catch my attention. After debating with a friend I couldn't find the words why I didn't love this movie but after much thought, I simply didn't feel the "magic" that Star Wars usually brings. Solo didn't do it for me. Like I said above, there are some cool scenes where we see how Han becomes who he is and the relationships he makes but other than that, we've seen heist movies thousands of times and it just didn't grab my attention and passion for this film. I don't know if it was because of change of directors or simply how the story bloomed, but I didn't walk out jumping in glee or even telling friends to go see it ASAP. The con really to me, is that this origin movie was just an okay film and that pains me to say that.

The Verdict:
YELLOW LIGHT (Procced with Caution)

You may feel different from my opinion and that's great!, but if you are a Star Wars fan then this is a movie you have to watch but if you are semi hesitant then I wouldn't really push you out the door to go see it. It's a good adventure movie but didn't give me that Star Wars magic that the franchise almost always gives me. If you feel different feel free to let me know below. May the Force be with you.
